Meditation is another tool for addressing tough times, as well as to simply enhance your day to day wellbeing. Meditation can be structured or more freeform. Traditional meditation often involves sitting, clearing your mind, and focusing on your breath. However, there are other ways to meditate as well. Guided mediation is another popular form of meditation. Scripts can be found on YouTube, as well as in a number of books. You can also create your own and record it. Guided mediation frequently involves a story or visualization. Meditation can also be more unstructured.
One of my favorite ways to meditate is listening to music. Try sitting down, feeling your feet on the floor, and focusing on your breath. Once you have slowed your breathing, focus on the music and see what it brings up for you. It may be relaxing, you may have thoughts or images come to you, or you may simply enjoy the music. The goal is simply to clear clutter from your mind and reconnect to your body in present time.
One key piece to any meditation is to create an environment that enhances the experience. While you can meditate without it, the experience is much richer under a thoughtfully created environment. Suggestions include essential oils, making the room visually appealing, playing soft music in the background, or meditating outside in nature.
